Eevee Cards And Their Specialties Part 3

We’ve recently gone through a mini series of articles on the various Eevee cards featured in Pokémon TCGP, and this is the final part of that series. We’ll go over the last 3 Eeveelution cards, their different variants and abilities and which ones we recommend to use in your decks!

Espeon:

Espeon is a Psychic Type Eeveelution to Eevee and the first of 2 Psychic Type Eeveelutions in Pokémon TCGP (which we’ll get into later in the article). There are 2 types of Espeon cards that feature in the game, each card having their own advantages. The regular Espeon card does 20 damage for each Energy attached to all your opponent’s Pokémon. The key phrase here is “Energy attached to all your opponent’s Pokémon,” which means that if your opponent’s deck values putting a lot of Energy to their Pokémon you can deal some serious damage to all Pokémon! Espeon EX on the other hand does 80 damage for 2 Energy but you can heal 30 damage from one of your Pokémon as long as Espeon EX is in the Active Spot. While both cards are fairly situational in their uses in our opinion Espeon EX’s healing, while helpful isn’t as useful as other healing Items or even other Pokémon with the same ability such as Indeedee EX, whereas regular Espeon can have a lot of damage output and can whittle down Pokémon with a lot of HP. While Espeon EX is still useful, we think Espeon is even more so!

Best Option: Espeon (Eevee Grove)

Sylveon:

Sylveon is the second Psychic Eeveelution to Eevee in Pokémon TCGP which is a major difference from the video games where Sylveon is a Fairy Type Pokémon. Similar to Espeon, there are 2 types of Sylveon cards, one regular and one EX. Regular Sylveon cards can attack for 40 damage for 2 Energy but it does 30 more damage for each Evolution Pokémon on your bench, whereas Sylveon EX can do 70 damage for 2 Energy but when you play Sylveon EX to evolve one of your Eevee Pokémon you can draw 2 cards from your deck. This can be extremely useful when you’re in a pinch and one of those 2 cards can be the card you need to win the game. The regular Sylveon card is also pretty useful for damage output although this can take a little bit more time to set up. Similar to the problem with Espeon EX, there are other cards that are a lot quicker to set up which have the same gimmick like Mega Altaria EX, so in our opinion being able to pull 2 more cards and dealing more consistent damage means that Sylveon EX is out choice!

Best Option: Sylveon EX (Eevee Grove)

Umbreon:

Umbreon is a Dark Type Eeveelution to Eevee and is the final Eeveelution of the Eevee line. Like with the others in the article there are 2 types of Umbreon cards, one regular and one EX. Regular Umbreon can attack for 40 damage for 2 Energy but the kicker here is that if your opponent’s Pokémon is a Basic Pokémon, that Pokémon can’t attack for their next turn. This can be extremely useful especially against more powerful Basic Pokémon although there are specific ways to get around this (such as using other Pokémon to move this Basic Pokémon to the Bench and then back to the Active Spot). Umbreon EX does 80 damage for 2 Energy but once per turn as long as Umbreon EX is in the Active Spot you can swap in an opponent’s Pokémon to the Active Spot that has damage on it. That’s right; you get a free Cyrus effect for your Eeveelution! If you’ve read our article on common Supporter cards you’ll find in online battles you know that Cyrus is extremely powerful so to have that for Umbreon EX is extremely helpful! We think that both Umbreon cards can be useful additions to your deck although regular Umbreon is more situational than Umbreon EX. If we had to pick one for our deck we’d pick Umbreon EX for its versatility.

Best Option: Umbreon EX (Wisdom Of Sea And Sky)

Throughout this series we’ve talked about which cards we think are the best options but in our opinion each Eevee card has its own strengths and weaknesses that can be utilized depending on what kind of deck you want to create. While we have our favorites we recommend experimenting with all of these Eevee cards to see which ones you like the best!
