In a previous article, we discussed the most common Supporter cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket. You’ll find at least one of those cards in most decks in battles. But what about newer cards that’ve been introduced? Where can those cards fit in? In this article, we’ll look at some new Supporter cards and how you can use them!
Wallace:
Wallace is from the newest card set (at time of writing), Everyday Wonders. This card is very specific to one type but it’s helpful for evolving that type. When you play this card you can choose a Water Pokémon in play with 50HP or less. When you do, you take a Pokémon from your deck that evolves from the one you chose. It then evolves it that same turn. This can be helpful for vulnerable Pokémon that can evolve into more powerful forms. Examples of these weaker Pokémon are Magikarp, Staryu and Feebas. This card essentially acts as a free evolution even if you don’t have the needed card in your hand. When you can evolve into more powerful forms, Wallace is a useful card to have. However, you can still have health boosting cards to protect weaker Pokémon until you can evolve them.
Juliana:
Juliana is from Paradox Drive and the only Trainer card that doesn’t use the Ancient or Future tag. And like the best Supporter cards in this game it can be used for multiple Pokémon! This card selects a random Stage 2 Pokémon from your deck and adds it to your hand. You can use this in a similar way to Serena (Crimson Blaze) where it can be super specific. If you only have 1 Stage 2 card in your deck this is an automatic win since you get the card you need! It can be frustrating when you don’t have the card you need to evolve. So this card can be a useful shortcut to evolve into more powerful Pokémon! This can also help with getting Stage 2 Mega EX Pokémon, especially if you have Rare Candies!
Korrina:
Korrina was introduced in Pulsing Aura and is more specific in its usage similarly to Wallace. However, this can help with dealing damage rather than evolving your Pokémon. And Korrina deal with Fighting Type Pokémon as opposed to Water Types. This card lets Fighting Type Pokémon deal 30 extra damage to EX Pokémon that turn. And while it’s specific to EX types it can turn around a game in a heartbeat. You can also combine this with other cards that deal more damage to your opponent. For example, Lucario (Space Time Smackdown) lets you deal 20 extra damage. And Arena of Antiquity (Pulsing Aura) lets you deal 20 extra damage to EX Pokémon. Korrina piles on to all of these effects and makes them even more helpful in battle! So if you have a Fighting deck, Korrina is a must have for damage dealing!
Iris:
Our final Supporter card is from the Mega Shine set and is the most specific in its usage featured here. It is specific to one Pokémon which is bad for variety and usability. However, its condition specific to that Pokémon can be very helpful. The Pokémon in question is Haxorus which is only found in Mega Shine. The main downside of Haxorus is that it’s a Dragon type, meaning Energy can be tricky. But if you defeat a Pokémon with Haxorus and play Iris you get one additional point. This means defeating a normal Pokémon can get you 2 points. And defeating an EX Pokémon can give you 3 points and win the game! Using Haxorus can be tricky, but using Iris in the right way can make it worth it!
These new Supporter cards might be difficult to get to grips with at first. However, when you get used to them they can win you games if used correctly! As always, experiment around and see how you can use them in your decks and in battle!
