Previously we looked at the best Pokémon with the Poison effect. We decided to follow up and look at other Pokémon with different status effects. As detailed before there are 5 statuses and in this article we’ll look at the second effect; Paralysis. If your Pokémon is Paralyzed it won’t be able to attack or retreat that turn. In this article we’ll look at some Pokémon that can inflict Paralysis and how they can be used in battle!
Dedenne (Mythical Island):
This is an Electric Type Pokémon and the first of 3 Electric Types featured in this article. When reading this article you’ll notice that most of these Pokémon attack similarly. To get the Paralysis effect you will need to flip a coin and land on heads. There are different ways to use this effectively but we’ll start with Dedenee! We’re starting out small since it only has 60 HP and can only do 10 damage. However, getting a Paralysis effect early in the game can be useful in annoying your opponent! If you get lucky you can keep your opponent in the Active zone and chip away at it. It’ll be even more effective if the Active Pokémon is a Basic Pokémon! Dedenne is also a better option than Joltik (Eevee Grove) which has the same effect but less health at 40 HP!
Lanturn EX:
This is an Electric Type Pokémon and a lot more powerful compared to Dedenne! This is also the only EX Pokémon we’ll look at in this article. It does 80 damage for 3 Energy which is a lot but irritating to set up. However, the effects of this attack make the wait worth it! When you use this attack you flip a coin. But unlike other coin flip moves, regardless of the outcome an effect happens! If you flip heads your opponent’s Active Pokémon gets Paralyzed. But if it flips tails they get Confused instead. These are different status effects but both are helpful for dealing with opponents. If you’d prefer the Paralysis effect, you can use the Will Supporter card to guarantee heads. Since this is a Stage 1 Pokémon too, you can also give it more health with Elegant Cape!
Glaceon (Space Time Smackdown):
This is a Water Type Pokémon and is also an Eeveelution! We briefly discussed this variant in our Eeveelution article. But now it gets its own featured spot in this article! At first glance there’s nothing particularly unique about this Pokémon. It deals 60 damage for 2 Energy and has the same coin flip mechanic as the other Pokémon. However, since this is a Water Type the strategies can change. For example, like Lanturn EX it’s a Stage 1 Pokémon so Elegant Cape can be applied. You can also take advantage of the various Supporter cards that combo with Water Pokémon. For example, Irida can heal 40 damage for each Pokémon with Water Energy attached! You can also use other Pokémon that combo well with Water Types. A couple of examples are Baxcalibur and Manaphy!
Toxtricity (Pulsing Aura):
This is an Electric Type Pokémon and the final Pokémon we’ll be looking at in this article. This is also the most recent variant to Toxtricity added to the game! But unlike the other Pokémon in this article, this doesn’t inflict Paralysis immediately. It does 40+ damage for 2 Energy but its effect only comes into play under one condition. One of your Pokémon must have been knocked out by damage from another Pokémon’s attack the previous turn. Once that happens, Toxtricity’s attack does 60 extra damage and the opposing Pokémon is Paralyzed. This can be more useful in the middle or late stage of a battle. If your opponent is already weakened hitting them with Paralysis isn’t a bad idea! The extra 60 damage can put your opponent in a tough spot as well. Even if your Pokémon are defeated, having Toxtricity as a backup can be a quick solution!
There aren’t as many Pokémon that can inflict Paralysis as you might think. The status effect is pretty deadly so it’s used sparingly. However, that doesn’t mean the amount of strategies can be diminished! As always, experiment around and see how you can use this status effect to your advantage. Be sure to come prepared with counters though!
