At time of writing, Pokémon TCGP have released a new card set; Ruler Of The Skies. And with 153 unique cards, this is the largest set in a while! New Fossils, new Stadiums, new Pokémon Tools and many more feature in this pack. And in this article, we’ll take a look at some cards that immediately caught our attention!
Dustox:
This is a Grass Type Pokémon and the first of 3 Stage 2 Pokémon featured in this article! It’s also the Pokémon that arguably has the most variety in this article. When first looking at Dustox it doesn’t look like anything special. It does 60 damage for 2 Energy which isn’t that much. Although, the Energy is Colourless which means it can fit into any deck it likes! This is an important point due to its ability! Once per turn you can use this ability to inflict one of 3 Status Effects at random. The Status Effects are either Poison, Burn or Confusion. If the opponent’s Active Pokémon is already inflicted with a Status Effect, it won’t inflict the same one twice. But you can potentially give your opponent all 3 if you get lucky! This is a great Pokémon to have on your bench to do a little more damage or make your opponent miss a turn!
Mega Sharpedo EX:
This is a Water Type Pokémon and the first of 2 Mega EX Pokémon we’ll look at in this article. It also has the cheapest Energy cost for an attack! It only costs 1 Energy to do 70 damage! The most interesting part of this Pokémon is what happens when you use its attack. When used, you can take a Water Energy and attach it to one of your Benched Pokémon. This means that this Pokémon can be good offensively and for Energy generation! It does the job of Manaphy but with a lot more attack damage! You can use this Pokémon to set up other powerful Pokémon such as Raging Bolt, Gyarados and Blastoise. It’s also helpful for Pokémon that gain more attack damage the more Water Energy they have. This is a versatile Pokémon that can work in multiple situations, so consider adding this one to your deck!
Armaldo:
This is a Fighting Type Pokémon and the second Stage 2 Pokémon we’ll look at in this article. Similar to Dustox, it doesn’t look like anything special at first. It has 150 HP and uses 3 Energy to attack. However, we haven’t given a damage output for a reason; it doesn’t have one! This sounds like a huge disadvantage but it works in a similar way to Raging Bolt. When you use the attack, you choose a spot in your opponent’s Field. On your next turn, the Pokémon in the spot you chose gets instantly knocked out. This can be beneficial in multiple ways! If your opponent is working a one Pokémon deck, this can be an instant win if you can survive! It can also put your opponent in a tough spot if they’re a point down. Or it can be used to force in a Pokémon your opponent wanted to keep on the bench. This Pokémon can be ruthless and as long as you have good Energy generation, this can be a match ender!
Mega Metagross EX:
Our final Pokémon is a Metal Type Pokémon and the second Mega EX Pokémon we’ll examine here. This Pokémon has the most health of any others in this article at 230 HP. It also has the highest starting damage at 100+ damage for 3 Energy. But what makes it special is how much damage it could potentially do! For each Metal Energy attached to this Pokémon it does an extra 10 damage. This means that you wouldn’t want to put this Pokémon in the Active spot right away. Instead, use Pokémon like Dialga EX to attach multiple Metal Energy at once! If you can get enough Energy attached to this Pokémon, this can become a force of nature! It does have a high retreat cost at 3 Energy but you can use Leaf to make your life easier! This is a new must-have in Metal decks due to the massive power output!
