In our previous article, we discussed the newest Pokémon TCG Pocket set; Ruler Of The Skies. We talked about the cards that immediately caught our eye but admitted we missed some. That’s because the new cards and strategies in this pack are numerous! So today we’ll look at more cards from this set and how to use them in Battles!
Rotom EX:
This is an Electric Type Pokémon and the first of 2 EX Pokémon featured in this article. Similar to some other Pokémon we’ve look at, at first glance it doesn’t look like much. It deals 30+ damage for 2 Energy which isn’t much for an EX Pokémon. However, there’s a catch with how much damage it can do. It deals an extra 10 damage for each Item card that was discarded. This puts Rotom in a very specific deck category but it has great combo potential. For example, you can pair this card with Pokémon that pair well with Item cards. For example, Pachirisu attacks by discarding your top card in your deck. If it’s an Item card it deals extra damage and racks up damage for Rotom EX! If you want to generate more cards, you can use Raikou RX to draw an extra card per turn. If you have lots of Item cards in your deck, Rotom EX’s power can go crazy!
Mega Gallade EX:
This is a Fighting Type Pokémon and the second EX Pokémon featured in this article. Usually you’d have a tough choice deciding which Pokémon to evolve Ralts into. You can choose either Gardevoir or Gallade and both are great options! However, this form of Gallade may sway you to the Fighting Types! It deals 100+ damage for 3 Energy which is pretty good for a Fighting Type Pokémon. However, if you play a Supporter Card on your turn it deals an extra 50 damage. This is a great boost since it encourages you to play Supporter Cards. And they can be anything! From adding more cards to swapping your opponent’s Pokémon. If you pair this with Arena of Antiquity or Lucario you can deal even more damage! Find Supporter cards that pair well with your deck and your damage will be consistently high!
Revavroom:
This is a Metal Type Pokémon and one that has a first in Pokémon TCG Pocket history. We’ll get to that in a moment but for now let’s look at its attack. It admittedly has a very high Energy cost to attack, dealing 70 damage for 4 Energy. It also has a lower retreat cost in comparison at 2 Energy. However, you can fix the attack problem by using Dialga EX which adds 2 Energy when it uses its first attack! But its Ability is where this Pokémon has a lot of potential. For the first time in the game’s history, Revavroom can have up to 2 Pokémon Tools attached. The combo potential of this Ability is huge. For example, you can add Elegant Cape and Poison Barb to grant more health and inflict Poison. You can add Metal Core Barrier and Protective Poncho to ensure no damage can be done to you that turn. There are many more combos you can do so make sure you experiment with Tools!
Soothing Shore:
Our final card we’re looking at in this article is a Stadium card! We rarely look at Stadium cards in these articles since they’re few and far between. But this Stadium has a fun function that has a couple of different strategies to it! When this Stadium is in play, if a Pokémon has Water Energy attached it heals them for 20 HP. You can use this in a couple of different ways. For starters, this obviously works in Water decks that require Water Energy. You can also use this for Pokémon that use Colourless Energy to attack. For example, Darkrai (Mega Shine) doesn’t need specific Energy to attack. If you attach Water Energy to it, it can take advantage of Soothing Shore’s effect! However, be careful in the sense that Stadiums work for both players. If your opponent has Water Energy it can take advantage of this Stadium too!
