As detailed in the last article, Eevee and its various evolutions (or Eeveelutions if you will!) are featured prominently in Pokémon TCGP, and each Eevee type has their own strengths and weaknesses. The only problem is that since there are so many iterations of these evolutions it can be hard to determine which ones to use in your deck. We’re here to detail these Eeveelutions and give our opinions on which ones you should use for your decks!
Vaporeon:
Vaporeon is the Water Type evolution to Eevee and this has a few different iterations to choose from! Genetic Apex’s has a healing property to it, with Bubble Drain dealing 60 damage for 3 Energy and healing 30 HP every time it uses this attack. Eevee Grove’s Vaporeon has a different approach, dealing a little more damage for the same Energy but flipping coins until you get tails, and for every heads a random Energy is discarded from your opponent’s Active Pokémon. Mythical Island’s variant is the most prominent one, with its Ability to move a Water Energy from your Benched Pokémon to the Active Pokémon being useful in a pinch. But in the most recent Pulsing Aura card pack update it finally has an EX of its own! This iteration has an ability which essentially acts as a Sabrina card where you can swap your opponent’s Active Pokémon as long as Vaporeon’s in the Active Spot. It also has the highest damage output at 80 damage and only requires 2 Energy. In our opinion this new variant is the one to utilize!
Best Option: Vaporeon EX (Pulsing Aura)
Jolteon:
Jolteon is the Electric Type Eeveelution to Eevee and while this one doesn’t have as many iterations to choose from as Vaporeon these Pokémon pack quite a punch! Well, with the exception of Eevee Grove’s which only does 60 damage and even then it’s situational. The 2 that can output lots of damage are Genetic Apex’s and Mega Rising’s EX variant. Genetic Apex’s has you flipping 4 coins and for every heads you deal 40 damage. This can be good for dealing a lot of damage although you’ll have to get quite lucky with the coin flips. But with a max damage output of 160 this can be a great addition to your deck! Alternatively you have Mega Rising’s Jolteon EX which can be both powerful and frustrating to your opponent. For 2 Energy you can deal 80 damage but as long as Jolteon EX is in the Active spot, for every Energy that gets attached to your opponent’s Pokémon from the Energy Zone, it does 20 damage to that Pokémon, even ones on the Bench! This gives you a couple of really good options for damage output, especially early in the game! Both of these cards can be used in a variety of different decks so we’d encourage you explore both options if you want good damage!
Best Options: Jolteon (Genetic Apex), Jolteon EX (Mega Rising)
Glaceon:
Glaceon is the Ice Type Eeveelution to Eevee but since Ice Type Pokémon aren’t recognized in this game, it is referred to as a Water Type card. Similar to Jolteon there aren’t as many variants but these cards are all pretty strong! Space Time Smackdown’s deals 60 damage for 2 Energy and has you flip a coin. If it turns up heads the Pokémon you’ve just attacked becomes paralyzed which can be extremely useful in a tough situation! Eevee Grove’s doesn’t do as much damage at 50 but the upside is that you can choose any Pokémon to attack, including Benched Pokémon. This freedom of choice can win you the game in a crucial moment! However, if you’re looking for more damage output Glaceon EX from Triumphant Light is the card for you! This card deals 90 damage for 3 Energy but it’s Ability is also interesting; if Glaceon EX is in the Active Spot then between every turn it will deal 10 damage to whichever of your opponent’s Pokémon is in the Active spot. All in all we’d say every Glaceon card is useful and can fit into most Water decks! But if we had to pick a couple we’d say Glaceon EX can do a lot of damage output very quickly and Space Time Smackdown’s paralysis effect can give you a bit more breathing room!
