Mythical Island: Cards We Recommend For Decks

In previous articles we focused on older cards that can still be useful in current decks. In that instance we focused on the original card set; Genetic Apex. But there are even more cards that have fallen by the wayside. In this article we’ll talk about the second card set, Mythical Island. This set isn’t as large but there are still some useful cards here! In this article we’ll discuss the cards we like and which ones would work best in your decks!

Serperior:

This is a Grass Type Pokémon and one of the more commonly used Pokémon from this set. As with other Pokémon we’ve looked at, its ability is where it shines. It can still deal 70 damage for 4 Energy, or 2 depending on the deck. Why? Because its ability doubles the worth of Energy. Simply, as long as Serperior is on the field, every Grass Energy counts as 2 Energy. This effect can be attached to multiple Pokémon. For example, Celebi EX (Mythical Island) deals 50 damage for each heads flip. Combining this with Serperior means the damage potential is massive. Pokémon with high Energy cost for attacks can be built up in half the time. And even though it isn’t used for attack Serperior can still pack a punch! If you have a Grass deck, Serperior is a must-have!

Mew EX:

This is a Psychic Type Pokémon and the first of two EX Pokémon featured in this article. Mew EX has 2 attacks, one more devastating than the other. It does 20 damage for 1 Energy in its first attack which isn’t much. But its second attack has an interesting feature. It costs 3 Energy and it uses whatever attack the opposing Pokémon has. In effect, it can use any attack in the game if the opposing Pokémon has it. Any previous attack that we’ve discussed that very powerful? Mew EX can use it. Raging Bolt that can KO the opposing Pokémon? Mew EX can use it. The only downside is its relatively low health at 130 HP. But if you place Indeedee EX (Mega Rising) on your Bench this problem can be averted. If you build the right deck around it, Mew EX can be a heavy hitter!

Aerodactyl EX:

This is a Fighting Type Pokémon and the second EX Pokémon in this article. It also evolves from the Old Amber Fossil (detailed in our Fossils articles). This Pokémon does 80 damage for 2 Energy so it’s quick to setup. But its ability can be very annoying for opponents to deal with. If Aerodactyl EX is on the field, your opponent can’t evolve their Active Pokémon. This can be frustrating to deal with if you use 1 Pokémon decks. If your opponent has more than 1 Pokémon then it would need to swap Pokémon over. This can waste turns and give you more time to prepare attacks. You can combine this with Lucario (Space Time Smackdown) and Arena of Antequity (Pulsing Aura) to boost attack. With its ability this can be a dangerous Pokémon to deal with!

Druddigon:

The final Pokémon featured in this article is the Dragon Type Pokémon in this set. Being a Dragon Type its Energy cost is more complex than the others. It requires 3 Energy to attack with at least 1 Water and Fire Energy featured. You do get a large amount of damage from it though, dealing 90 damage. Its ability is what makes it appealing to players however. When it takes damage from an opposing Active Pokémon’s attack it deals 20 recoil damage. Essentially it’s a free Rocky Helmet Tool (which you can also attach for more damage!). Most players won’t even use its attack, placing it as an obstacle for opponents. And with a max HP of 100 it can be annoying for players to deal with. If you have other Pokémon with high Energy requirements, Druddigon can be a good delay tactic.

There are other Pokémon in this set that we haven’t mentioned like Celebi EX. All of these Pokémon can be useful in their own ways for your decks. Abilities are super important to consider for which Pokémon to use in your decks. As always we recommend exploring different Pokémon to see which ones work for you!
