Genetic Apex: More Cards We Recommend For Decks

As mentioned in our previous article, with newer Pokemon TCGP cards being introduced older cards may be forgotten. But Genetic Apex has a total of 226 cards to choose from (not including special cards)! With all these cards to choose from it’s inevitable that we’d leave some out. So here are some more cards from Genetic Apex we think you should add to your decks!

Charizard EX:

This is a Fire Type Pokémon and is the first iteration of Charizard’s EX forms. This is also the first of two EX Pokémon we’ll discuss in this article. With Mega EX Pokémon not being introduced yet, this is arguably Charizard’s most powerful version. It has 2 attacks, both with vastly different power levels. It can do 60 damage for 3 Energy which is its simplest attack. But it can also do a whopping 200 damage for 4 Energy! The only downside to the latter attack is you discard 2 Fire Energy after using it. However, with modern cards this downside can be nullified. For example, you can use Charmeleon (Mega Shine) to feed an extra Fire Energy to Charizard EX. You can also use Flame Patch Item Cards to regain your discarded Fire Energy. As long as you can generate Fire Energy effectively, this Pokémon can be dangerous!

Hypno:

This is a Psychic Type Pokémon and one that admittedly doesn’t get seen too often. It’s a Stage 1 Pokémon with only 100 health and a low attack. It can only do 50 damage for 3 Energy. So what makes this Pokémon useful in a battle. Its ability, where you flip a coin and if you get heads the opposing Active Pokémon is Asleep. There are other Pokémon that can also do the job like Igglybuff or Swablu (Mega Rising). However, they can be easily defeated so having Hypno in your ranks could be safer. It can also pair well with Darkrai (Mega Shine) which does 20 damage every turn to Asleep Pokémon. Hypno might not be able to fit in with many decks but this particular deck can be boosted by it! So if you’re worried about your Pokémon going down, Hypno is a safe option for Sleep decks.

Mewtwo EX:

This is another Psychic Type Pokémon and the second EX Pokémon featured in this article. This Pokémon is actually similar to Charizard EX. They both have 2 attacks for the same Energy cost and their second attack discards 2 Energy. But in Mewtwo EX’s case, it does slightly less damage. Its attacks do 50 and 150 damage respectively. However, the main difference is that Mewtwo EX can generate Energy more easily. Gardevoir (Genetic Apex) is a great option for Psychic Energy generation. Other Psychic Pokémon can also take damage for it so you can focus on attaching Energy! For example, Mega Gardevoir EX (Fantastical Parade) generates 2 Psychic Energy to attach to your Pokémon. It also has a low retreat cost and high damage so you can set up Mewtwo EX! There are plenty of methods to utilise Mewtwo EX effectively, so find what works for you!

Weezing:

This is a Dark Type Pokémon and the second regular Pokémon we’ll look at here. The first things that jump out are its low attack and high retreat cost. It does 30 damage for 1 Energy and it takes 3 Energy to retreat from play. But its ability is where it shines. If Weezing is in the Active Spot you can Poison your opponent’s Active Pokémon. Poison usually does 10 damage but there are ways to do more. You can combine the Poison effect with Nihilego (Extradimensional Crisis) to do more damage. If you have 2 in play you can deal 30 Poison damage per turn! You can combine this with other Status Effects to deal more damage. For example, you can also afflict Burn easily using Typhlosion (Wisdom Of Sea And Sky). While Weezing can’t do much damage itself, the Status Effect possibilities are numerous!

With the amount of cards in Genetic Apex there are bound to be others we’re forgetting. But just because the cards are older doesn’t mean they can’t be effective! Unlock cards from Genetic Apex if you can and see which combos you can create!
