In our previous articles we’ve looked at cards from older decks that are still useable today. We’re currently looking at the 3rd card set: Space Time Smackdown! Since there are lots of unique cards in this deck we’re bound to have missed a few. So in this article we’ll look at some more cards and how to use them in Battles!
Yanmega EX:

This is a Grass Type Pokémon and the only EX Pokémon featured in this article! It’s also a unique EX since it uses Colourless Energy instead of other types. This means that you can drop this Pokémon into any type of deck and still use it! For its attack, it deals a whopping 120 damage for 3 Energy! The only downside is that you must discard a random Energy from Yanmega EX once used. However, with newer cards being added to the game there are ways to fix this! It is dependent on what type of deck you’re using and the Energy you want to attach! For example, Serperior can make Grass Energy worth double its worth. You can use Rainbow Cave to discard Energy you don’t like and get them back later. Or you can use Pokémon like Mantyke or Pichu to attach other Energy types quickly!
Electivire:

This is an Electric Type Pokémon and one that might not look like anything special at first glance. It deals 40+ damage for 2 Energy and has a high retreat cost at 3 Energy. However, the plus by the damage output is extremely important. If this Pokémon has at least 2 Extra Electric Energy attached, it deals an extra 80 damage! Naturally the strategy here would be to use good Energy Generation to build up its attack. There are a couple of ways to do this. Firstly you can use cards like Electric Generator or Pichu to build up Energy for the Bench. You can use Electrical Cord just in case a Pokémon goes down to transfer its Energy. And if you build up enough Energy you can transfer it to Miraidon EX to boost its own attack! You can also use Leaf to reduce the Energy to retreat by 2 if you’re stuck with it.
Mesprit:

This is a Psychic Type Pokémon and arguably the most unique Pokémon we’ve look at in these articles! This Pokémon’s attack is conditional due to needed 2 other Pokémon on your Bench to attack! In order to attack you need Uxie and Azelf on your Bench. When you do, this Pokémon does a staggering 160 damage! You do unfortunately lose all your Energy when using this attack but there are ways to fix this! For starters you can have Gardevoir on your Bench to attach Psychic Energy to Mesprit. Mega Gardevoir EX also does the job well and you can take 3 Energy to attach to your Pokémon! You can also use Uxie to attach Energy to Mesprit if you don’t have that many options available. Getting your Energy back might be a challenge but if you can get it done this can be a game changer!
Porygon-Z:

This is a Colourless Type Pokémon and another Pokémon that has a very unique mechanic! It’s also the only Stage 2 Pokémon featured in this article. It deals 80 damage for 3 Energy and since they’re Colourless you can attach any Energy you’d like! But the effect of this attack is what makes this Pokémon special. When using this attack, you can change your opponents Active Energy to any type you’d like! If they have one Energy Type deck and no ways to discard Energy you can prevent your opponent from attacking! Since Porygon-Z has a good amount of attack damage you can use this offensively as a viable option! We’d also recommend putting Porygon2 in your deck due to its ability to evolve when Energy is attached! We also recommend putting cards in your deck that can disrupt your opponent even more! Examples of these are Red Card and Team Rocket Grunt.
All of the Pokémon we’ve featured in this deck so far are all unique in their own ways. There are lots of Pokémon with different abilities that are useful for decks! And in this deck we haven’t got to the Items or Supporter cards you can use! But for now, experiment with all these cards and explore this card set to see what you can find!
